SUMMARY:The Bronx 250th Tapestry - Art-Making Session
DESCRIPTION:WE WANT YOUR HELP!\nJoin KHS at Edgehill on Thursday and be a part of History\n(and join the fun!)\nJoin us for all four art-making sessions on:\nMarch 5\, 12\, 19\, and 26 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM\nJoin us at Edgehill for four Thursday evenings in March for a community art project: the “Bronx 250th Tapestry.” As an update to the bicentennial quilts that were sewn in our area in 1976\, this tapestry will represent our community\, historic events\, and landmarks. Only this time\, no needle or thread is required to contribute. Participants will work with teaching artist Tijay Mohammed and the KHS team to produce “squares\,” which will all be stitched together later to form the larger tapestry which will be displayed at different venues in the community and preserved for future generations. \nNo artistic or sewing experience is needed! You can choose to create art\, design\, or just help out with stitching–or you can do all of those components if you wish. \nIf you sign up\, you will come to four sessions at Edgehill on March 5th\, 12th\, 19th and 26th that will run from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Please respond to this email to let us know if you would like to join. SUMMARY:Dramatic performance of "CATO: A Tragedy"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free performance of “Cato: A Tragedy” by Live History. DESCRIPTION:Discounted tickets are available if you get them before April 1st!  Get your tickets here.  Proceeds of this event support Van Cortlandt House Museum and Kingsbridge Historical Society’s educational programs.\nEnjoy an evening of 18th-century tavern revelry with live music\, beer\, games\, trivia\, and snacks at the Van Cortlandt House Museum. \n\n\n\n\nGuests are welcomed into the historic house beginning at 4:30 PM to enjoy beer\, cider\, and wine alongside tavern snacks inspired by the eighteenth century\, try their hand at traditional games like skittles and mancala\, and settle in as the atmosphere fills with music and conversation. Local historian Nick Dembowski serves as master of ceremonies for the evening\, guiding the festivities while sharing stories about the role taverns played in colonial New York. \nAt 5:30 PM\, test your knowledge during a round of historical trivia inspired by the history of local public houses. SUMMARY:Fluid Loyalties: A Fordham Farmboy Navigates the Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Bronx Beer Hall for a free lecture by Dr. J Keith Doherty of Philipse Manor Hall about Andrew Corsa and his experiences during the American Revolution.  Corsa was part of a prominent family in Fordham Village and remembered as an American patriot and one of Washington’s “Westchester Guides” during the Revolution.  But Corsa had a complicated history of shifting allegiance during the war.  Dr. Doherty will unpack this history and speak more generally about the complex nature of the Revolution. \nThis event is part of Bronx County Historical Society’s “America 250: The Bronx” yearlong programming and co-sponsored by the Kingsbridge Historical Society and Van Cortlandt House Museum. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development in partnership with the City Council. \nThe Kingsbridge Historical Society and VCHM’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
