SUMMARY:Bronx 250th Tapestries on Display at Edgehill
DESCRIPTION:Come check out the newly sewn beautiful Bronx 250th Tapestries at Edgehill on Sunday August 2nd and 9th between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. \nIn 1976\, local women formed “quilting bees” to sew quilts in honor of the 200th anniversary of American Independence. 50 years later\, in 2026\, a different group of Bronx residents worked together to produce two quilts depicting significant places\, people\, and stories from our communities. \nThe project was led by teaching artist Tijay Mohammed in collaboration with the Kingsbridge Historical Society and Riverdale Senior Services. The quilt design work was performed by Bronxites at Lehman College\, JASA\, the Kingsbridge Historical Society\, and Riverdale Senior Services. \nRead more about the quilt project here. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development in partnership with the City Council. The Kingsbridge Historical Society’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \n
