SUMMARY:Kingsbridge at the Dawn of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Register for the Zoom here.\nWas the American Revolution made up of battles\, soldiers\, forts\, and ships?  Or was the real Revolution the change that occurred in the minds of the people: that they no longer wanted a king and parliament ruling them from thousands of miles away?  John Adams and others thought it was the latter. \nThis presentation will focus on the local politics in the years leading up to the Revolutionary War in Kingsbridge\, which was caught between New York City and Westchester.  It will focus on the years of 1774 and 1775 when the Revolution in the minds of the people was taking shape.  The events of those years\, while not as well-celebrated as 1776\, set the stage for the most dramatic and violent years in the history of historic Kingsbridge\, which included the modern neighborhoods of Riverdale\, Spuyten Duyvil\, Marble Hill\, and Inwood. \nJoin local historian\, Nick Dembowski\, for an in-depth look at the social\, political\, and physical landscape that set the Revolution in motion in Kingsbridge and New York.  The presentation is free and open to the public on the back porch of the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum at 4881 Broadway at W. 204th Street in upper Manhattan.  The event starts at 6PM and should last an hour.  A zoom link will be posted here as the event approaches. \nMore information about the venue can be found here. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. \nThe Kingsbridge Historical Society’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
